Sir Bernard Ingham
Maggie has all the praises for him.
“The best press secretary in the world” expressed the prime minister regarding her official Chief Press Secretary. Sir Bernard Ingham is well known for being bagman to Margaret Thatcher. He commenced his career as a journalist on The Yorkshire Post working his way up to The Guardian.
He then joined the Civil Service and did the same working his way up as head of Information at the P and I Board and then moving to the power bases of Employment and Energy. This gave him an opportunity to work with some of the most famous politicians of the late twentieth century and was constantly at Mrs. Thatcher side during her term in office.
Sir Bernard draws on his life to offer a variety of talks and after-dinner speeches. The Rise and Fall of Margaret Thatcher; Press, Power and Government; and Public Relations — Gimmickry or Gold Dust are few of his titled speeches.
A distinguished speaker, Sir Bernard still has that gruff, no nonsense Yorkshire way.
