Jason Gardener
Born: Bath, England
Date of Birth: 18 September 1975
Nationality: British
31 year old Jason is one of the UK and Europe’s all time great sprinters. The 2004 World Indoor 60m Champion, 3 times, and reigning European Indoor 60m Champion and current AAA’s champion, achieved one of his ultimate ambitions in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games by winning Gold in the 4 x 100m relay just months after undergoing an operation to repair a double hernia. For his services to athletics he was awarded an MBE in the 2005 New Year’s Honours and has been made an Honorary Freeman of the City of Bath.
Based in Bath and coached by Malcolm Arnold, former British Athletics Head Coach, Jason has now set his sights on the European Indoor Championships in 2007.
Since making his senior international debut in 1995, Jason has had to work hard on a number of occasions to get back on form after injuries and operations. The feeling that he has more to give to his sprinting and can achieve more medals on a world stage keeps him motivated for future competition.
Away from the track, Jason (aka The Bath Bullet) has interests including cars, motor racing and photography. Articulate and bright, he has a media degree, has appeared on the BBC’s Blue Peter show and A Question of Sport among others, and is gaining a reputation as an intriguing speaker able to pass on valuable tips about self confidence, perseverance and ultimate achievement.
